Connect menus and create pages
Connect menus and Page templates, then configure collection filters and search for your real catalogue.

Create the destination first, then connect it to the theme. A menu label, a Page template and a saved Shopify Page are different things: the template supplies the layout, the Page supplies its title and content, and the menu supplies a way to reach it.
Build and select your main menu
- Create the products, collections and Pages you want shoppers to visit.
- In Shopify admin, open Content → Menus and create or edit your main menu.
- Add short labels and choose each destination from Shopify's resource picker. Select an existing Page or collection directly where available instead of pasting its address.
- Arrange the links and any submenu items, then save the menu.
- Open the theme editor, select Header, and choose that menu in Main menu. Save.
Result: the header uses the menu you selected. A menu you create in Shopify does not automatically become this theme's main menu. Shopify describes its menu controls in Editing menus.
Start with a few clear destinations, such as your main collection, a gift guide and your story. Check both the desktop dropdowns and phone menu.
Add images inside a menu
In Header, add a Menu image card block.
- Set Parent menu destination to the same resource used by the top-level menu item you want to enrich.
- Select a Product or Collection for the card. Use Custom image, Custom heading, Short caption or Custom link only where you need an override.
- Repeat for the few cards that help a shopper choose, then save and open the menu in the storefront preview.
Result: the card appears in the matching menu panel. Renaming the top-level label keeps the connection because it uses the destination. If you change that destination, reconnect the card. Two menu entries with the same destination share its connected cards.
Parent menu label (fallback) is for configurations without a destination connection. Prefer the destination picker for a new setup. An unconnected card shows editor guidance and stays hidden from shoppers.
Add recipient and occasion shortcuts
Header also accepts Gift collection link blocks. Choose the Menu group, enter its Label, and select a Collection or Custom link. A custom link takes priority over the collection's address. A block without a usable label and destination is hidden.
Change Recipient menu label and Occasion menu label to match your store. These shortcuts are chosen by you; the theme does not automatically classify the catalogue into recipients or occasions.
Set up collection filters and sorting
A collection page uses your catalogue and Shopify's filter data. The homepage Gift finder is a separate shortlist of selected gifts; configuring it does not configure collection filters.
- In Shopify admin, open Products → Collections and create or open a collection. Give it a title, add the intended products and make it available to the Online Store. Make sure those products are also available there.
- In the theme editor's page selector, open the collection template you use and choose that collection for the preview. Open its Collection section.
- Enable Enable filters and, if useful, Enable sorting. Set Products per page, Desktop columns and Mobile columns for the catalogue. Save.
- Open Apps → Search & Discovery in Shopify admin. Install Shopify's Search & Discovery app if it is not already available to your account.
- Open Filters → Add filter, choose Source, and select a useful filter such as availability, price or an actual product option. Save it. Repeat only for choices that help shoppers, then arrange their order in the app's Filters list.
- Open the collection in the storefront preview. Choose a filter value, press Apply, inspect the products and active-filter labels, then try Clear all and a different sort order.
Result: the theme displays the applicable filter choices supplied by Shopify and the sorting options for that collection. Keepsake presents list choices as text labels with counts; selecting a visual filter mode in the app does not add image swatches to this theme's filter panel. Shopify's filter setup guide explains filter sources, grouping and platform limits.
Filters are enabled but missing. Confirm that you saved filter definitions in Search & Discovery and that the current collection has products with matching data. The theme switch displays available filter data; it does not create it. Shopify can omit price filtering outside the store's default currency, and very large collections have platform limits. Check those conditions before changing the theme.
The result is empty. Clear the active filters and confirm the product belongs to this collection and is available on the Online Store. A filter value with no matches can be unavailable; it does not mean the product has been deleted.
Set up and check search
- In the theme editor, open Header and enable Show search.
- Use the page selector to open Search, then open its Search section and set Enable filters as required. There is no separate search sorting switch: the results page provides Shopify's sorting options after a query is submitted. Save.
- In the storefront preview, open the header search, enter part of a real product title and inspect any suggestions. Submit the query to open the complete results page. The search can include products, blog articles and Pages.
- Try a result, a product filter, a sort choice and a query with no matches. Confirm that shoppers can clear filters or continue shopping. Live suggestions depend on Shopify's predictive-search service and supported language; the full search form remains the route to submit a query.
Result: shoppers can reach both the search overview and full results, and applicable filters use the same Search & Discovery configuration as collections.
For alternative customer wording, you can optionally create a synonym group in Apps → Search & Discovery → Search → Synonyms → Create synonym group. Add genuine equivalents, such as customized and personalized, give the group an internal title and save. Test both terms against relevant products. A synonym group does not create products, change their titles or improve third-party search-engine rankings. See Shopify's search customisation guidance.
A product is absent. Check its status, Online Store availability, title and relevant content before changing the theme. Search and filter changes in Shopify's app apply across the store, including the published theme; they are not isolated by an unpublished theme preview. Use Updates and apps when testing changes in a live store.
Create a Page and assign a layout
- Open Pages in Shopify admin and create your Page with a clear title.
- Add any introductory body content you need and save it. Keep the title and introduction brief when the template already contains a substantial story or guide.
- Choose the appropriate Theme template for that Page when it is available, then save.
- In the theme editor, open that Page/template and replace its section text, images, products and links.
- Add the saved Page to your main or footer menu and test the link in the storefront preview.
| Template | Use it for | What needs your attention |
|---|---|---|
| Default page | A simple text or information page. | The Page title and body in Shopify admin. |
our-story |
Your brand story. | The Editorial hero opening, story images and words, plus shopping links. |
gift-guide |
Advice and curated gift discovery. | The questions, selected products, images and relevant links. |
making-and-delivery |
Preparation, shipping and related buying information. | Every timing, packaging, care and policy statement. |
contact |
A contact page with the theme's contact form. | Your introduction and the store's real contact arrangements. |
Result: the saved Page uses the chosen layout and shoppers can reach it from a menu. Installing a template does not create the Page or link it for you.
The supplied Our story template uses Editorial hero for its main heading and keeps Page → Show page title off. Edit that hero heading and image to introduce your own story. Any body content saved on the Page is still shown below the opening; an empty body leaves no blank section. If you remove the hero, turn Show page title back on so the page retains its main heading.
Template edits affect every Page assigned to that template. Create another template in Shopify's editor if a second Page needs an independent layout. Opening a Page as the editor's preview does not assign that template to it.
Shopify's assignment dropdown uses templates in the published theme. If Keepsake is still unpublished, preview the new template in its editor and plan the resource assignment for launch. Do not publish an incomplete shop just to make a template appear. See Shopify's templates guide.
Set up the footer
Select Footer → Footer menu, or add Menu column blocks and choose a menu for each. Use Text column for a short factual introduction. Keep your real policies up to date in Shopify before using Show policy links.
Show language selector and Show country / region selector use the languages and markets you configure in Shopify. Turning them on does not translate your catalogue or activate new markets. Social links come from Theme settings → Brand and social links.
Show Shopify attribution displays Shopify's native attribution link below the footer. It is enabled by default and can be turned off in the editor.
Optional feature-showcase Page
The theme-features template demonstrates theme features for a theme presentation. It is optional and usually does not belong in a normal store's shopper menu. If you need it, create a Page with handle theme-features, assign the template and leave its body empty because the layout supplies an opening heading. Connect its product selections to your actual demonstration catalogue.
Common mistakes
The story Page is mostly blank. Add real content in its sections; a title alone is not a finished story. An empty Page body does not reserve a screen of blank space, and blank paragraph-only content is treated as empty.
The menu card disappeared after changing a link. Reconnect Parent menu destination to the new resource.
A button opens all products instead of the intended collection. Choose its explicit destination. Default shopping collection is a fallback and does not create menu links or replace links already selected elsewhere.
